Interview: Tai

He’s produced for artists from gangster rap to nu disco, he’s lived and toured all over the world, he’s signed to one of the biggest electronic labels in the game and has releases from all of them, hailing from Germany, we are happy and honored to present an interview with Dim Mak’s, filthy hard electro game-changer, Tai. Do you guy’s remember the first time you heard the preview for Tai’s “Beat Down EP”? I sure as hell do, the moment I my ears picked up on that maniacal merry-go-round vocal drop for his smash hit with Mr. Steve Aoki, “Paradise Polergeist” my mind was shot. For days on end all I could hear was that drop, like a constant ringing in my ears that sounds like “AYYEYYEYYAYYAY!” Since then he has put out banger after banger from “Liposuct” to his most recent single, “Ion” with D.I.M. His sound is like a strobe montage through all the darkest, murkiest clubs in Munich mixed up with that hard electro grind that Los Angeles eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He’s got a track coming out in late November with Bart B More. Without further ado, here’s your new favorite producer.
(B) How has having lived all over the world and producing so many different genre’s of music helped to develop you’re very unique sound? From what would you say you’ve derived the most musical inspiration?
(T) I guess the constant change of styles and personal surroundings ables me to never get caught up in one genre too long and therefore I always have different and untypical ways of approaching a song to other producers.
e.g.: Lyposuct was the first bassline I played on an electro track which had my name on it. I played something which wasn’t so typical for this music genre people say. But when I did it I didn’t realize. So i have fun jumping about.
(B) For those who haven’t gotten to see you in concert, what can we expect from one of your shows? When will you be getting back to the states?

(T) For this year I know I will be all over Europe on the weekends and then Thailand in November and an Australia tour to finish up this year in December. I haven’t really been able to look into 2012 yet, but I will make sure I make it over to the us!… I almost promise this! :-)

3. What can we expect from the new Autumn EP being released on Dim Mak? Any new styles you’ve been wanting to try out?

I am so looking forward to the, “At The Disco” EP cause I have been keeping my releases back for quite a few months now trying to reduce to the maximum.

The a-side is a track the way I like it with a hard technoy bassline but then a super catchy englishy hook line with vocal :-)
Steve Aoki has been playing it in all his sets for the last 6 months. He is the only one who has it so far. But I just got the master today so I will send it to a few dj friends now.
4. Finally, whats next for TAI? You just released the massive track, “Ion,” your Halloween mix is killer, and you’ve got this new EP about to drop on Dim Mak, what’s your next step?
Oh thank you.

i am releasing a single in november with my blond buddy Bart B More called, “Cross It (Di Bus Can’t Swim)”

(Teaser’s up top)
I am really looking forward to this and I just came back from holland the other day where we finished what might be the b-side. Lets see :-)
Perhaps a full album down the road?
Yeeees. I have been working on it since over 3 years already! So it will have songs from all different times and production periods. A lot of different styles. Musical peices as well as club bangers. And also I will be including the music I did for my commercials like:
- BMW 6 series
- Mercedes Benz
(it’ll be in german so just press the, “A QUALIZER STARTEN” button and then “MIT FACEBOOK (with facebook)” or “OHNE FACEBOOK (without facebook)”.
