Interview: Bart B More | Tech House

Interview: Bart B More

Interview: Bart B More

In the Electronic Music scene today the artists that stand out most are those who cannot be easily genre-defined.  Down from the Netherlands, the dirty dutch drummaster, Bart B More, makes music that just can’t be pinned down. Bart goes hard with earsplitting bass and uncompromising drums, he grinds with his own original brand of loopy electro synths, but at any time he can smooth it all out with a funky discohouse bassline and a crackly upbeat twang. Put simply, Bart can do it all; he’s collaborated with the likes of Drop the Lime, Tai, Tommie Sunshine, and Harvard Bass, he’s remixed everyone from Chris Brown to Zombie Nation, and he’s got his own record label, Secure Recordings, backing some radical artists like Bassjackers and Bingo Players. Definitely a very accomplished guy and he was nice enough to talk with us about his sound, his plans for the future, and his upcoming show at the Avalon, November 25th. Get your tickets here and dance off all that turkey to some dirty dutch destroyers.

1. For being a young producer in this genre you’ve already built up an incredible niche for yourself and have an army followers devoted to your sound. What have been your biggest influences throughout your career either on your music or life in general?

-

I get my inspiration and influences from many different angles as I listen to many different kinds of music, but when it comes to dance music I grew up on French house (Daft Punk and the likes) and Chicago house & techno so I think that’s the foundation of my music as it is today. When it comes to life in general my parents always told me try to be a good person the best you can and treat people how you want to be treated yourself and that’s what I live by.

2. Your sound is almost entirely original and unlike the other dirty dutch artists that have been hitting the states lately. It’s much bassier and those drums are a distinguishing beat all your own. How did you come to your unique sound, especially those loopy, dirty drums?

-

Thank you for the compliment! I always try to give my music some kind of twist to make it sound different from everyone else’s. Even when it’s based or inspired on music from others I always try to bend it so that it has a different feel to it. I don’t have a standard work method or anything. I just try to mess around with different sounds and effects every time I make a beat and try to create something that sounds unique in it’s own way.

3. I did an interview with Tai a few weeks ago, he’s awesome dude, he called you his “blonde buddy,” you guys seem like good friends. What’s a wild night out with you and Tai like? Do you guys ever get into anything crazy?

-

Haha, yeah TAI is awesome. We became friends after we first hit the studio this year. The times we’ve seen each other we didn’t really go out though, we prefer to make music in the studio and enjoy good food (TAI is actually an amazing chef). The nights we played a show together did get a bit crazy though haha, we both just really get into our music and have fun playing it.

4. You’re playing a show at the Avalon on the 25th, one of my favorite venues. For those who have not seen a Bart B More show, what can they expect?

-

I’m such a studio junkie that I’ve made enough material to easily fill a set with, so that’s usually what I do actually. I always play a lot of my own stuff mixed with the best stuff I get sent by my fellow producers.

5. Finally, what’s next for Bart B More? You’ve got the massive new track with Tai, “Cross it” coming out, you’ve just released an awesome EP with Harvard Bass, you’ve got some of the best mixes in the game. What is your next step as an artist, perhaps a full-length album?

-

Yes a full-length album is definitely something that’s been crossing my mind, and I have enough potential album material to do it. I just need to put all the pieces together and then figure out what I want to do with it. I’m close to finishing a full length album together with Tommie Sunshine and Riptide as Horsepower, something we’re all very proud of. Also I want to keep on building my label Secure Recordings. I’m super happy with the last releases on the label and the label nights we did were all very memorable. It’s just so cool to see the music we put out and play in the clubs get picked up so well. Makes me even more excited for the future!

-

Thank’s for letting me do this interview, my followers and I are huge fans, I appreciate it.
